Alpaca Fiber Insulation Company of Ohio, Inc. has a proven record of excellence in utilizing all natural fiber harvested alpaca fleece into eco-friendly products.
Why Alpaca insulation?
Alpaca fleece is 100% natural fiber harvested from an alpaca. It is a soft, durable, luxurious and silky natural fiber. While similar to sheep's wool, it is warmer, not prickly, and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpaca is naturally water-repellent and difficult to ignite.
What is an Alpaca?
Alpacas are livestock raised for their fiber. Alpacas are members of the camelid (or camel) family. They are mild-tempered, out going animals with an inquisitive nature and bring great pleasure to their owners. The Ohio weather is a perfect place to raise alpacas, due to our weather being similar to where they originated, in the Andean Mountain ranges of South America. There are two different kinds of alpacas Huacaya & Suri. Huacaya's fiber is better for making into our great insulation. Alpacas are sheared once a year, yielding roughly five to ten pounds.
